We augment your full IT team
Your IT team, augmented.
Most schools have an internal IT coordinator or small IT team. They are dedicated, they know the school, and they work hard. But they cannot be everywhere at once, and schools never slow down. These are the common scenarios we step into.
Staff sick days and leave
Your IT coordinator goes down for a week. Users still need support. Printers still break. We step in from day one and nothing falls over while they are away. Long service leave, parental leave, personal leave covered.
Start of year device rollouts
Hundreds of devices need enrolling, configuring, and distributing before the first bell. That is not a one-person job. We deploy iPad fleets, Windows laptops, Chromebooks, and mixed estates at scale, on time, every time.
End of year tasks
Device collection, data wipes, asset audits, software licence reviews, server patching, infrastructure updates. The end of year crunch hits every school. We absorb the workload so nothing carries over and nothing gets missed.
Projects and rollouts
New building, new WiFi, new server room, new learning management system. Your internal team keeps the lights on while we deliver the project alongside them. Scoped, delivered, documented, handed back cleanly.
Security and compliance uplifts
Department audit incoming. Essential Eight controls need implementing. Cybersecurity posture needs a review. We scope it, deliver it, and document it so your team is ready. No last-minute scrambling.
Overflow and after-hours cover
Your team works 8 to 4. Issues do not. Parents evenings, Saturday sport days, school events, network incidents at 6pm. We cover the hours and the moments your internal staff simply cannot be there.
Start-of-year rollout planner
Will every student have a working device on day one?
Enter how many devices need enrolling and who is free to do it. We show how many working days it takes and whether you need more hands.
Your rollout
13working days for your team
- Hands-on hours

- Days you have
- 10
You are about 1 technician short.
This is the work our Orange Card technicians pick up under QEDSOA-99983, priced per project, so every student has a working device on day one.
Rule of thumb: about 12 minutes per device to unbox, enrol, label and hand out, and 6.5 productive hours per technician per day. Zero-touch enrolment through Apple School Manager or Autopilot cuts it further.
Alongside your team
We work alongside your team, not instead of them.
Your IT coordinator knows your school. They know the quirks of the network, the names of the staff, the history of every device. That knowledge is valuable and irreplaceable. We never try to replace it.
What we do is absorb the overflow, cover the gaps, and bring specialist depth on the things that fall outside a generalist's remit. Penetration tests. Infrastructure upgrades. Complex device management. Security compliance. Your coordinator stays in control and gets the backup they deserve. No displacement, no politics, just a better outcome for teachers and students.

Students
Students: the whole point of everything we do.
- Technology that works in class
When WiFi drops or a device fails mid-lesson, learning stops. We keep infrastructure stable so students can focus on the work, not the tools.
- Devices ready from day one
Start of year device rollouts completed before the first bell. Every student has a configured, enrolled, working device when they walk in on day one.
- Safe and filtered access
Appropriate content filtering and safe internet access across the school network, keeping students protected without getting in the way of legitimate research.
- Learning beyond the classroom
Reliable outdoor WiFi, LMS access from home, and hybrid learning infrastructure so the school day does not have to stop at the classroom wall.
- Privacy protected
Student data handled with care. Privacy Act compliance, access controls, and data governance so parents and guardians can trust the school's systems.
- Teachers who can teach
When technology works reliably, teachers spend class time teaching. Less troubleshooting means more time on what actually matters for student outcomes.

The education tech picture
Modern learning demands modern IT.
Education institutions face unique challenges: integrating learning management systems, supporting hybrid classrooms, managing student device deployments, and protecting sensitive educational records.
From primary schools deploying 1:1 iPad programs to universities running complex research networks, the technology picture is complex and constantly evolving. We understand LMS integration (Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace), device management at scale (MDM, Intune, Jamf), classroom technology infrastructure, and student data privacy and compliance.
Schools balance competing demands: supporting educators, protecting student data, managing device fleets at scale, meeting Department compliance, and keeping budgets under control. One technical failure disrupts entire classes and impacts learning. We deliver support designed specifically for educational institutions, not generic business IT.
- Student data protection
Privacy Act, state Information Privacy Act and Department compliance built-in. Secure infrastructure protecting sensitive student and staff data across all systems.
- Device management at scale

Why education institutions choose Real Bytes
Why schools excel with Real Bytes.
We understand schools operate differently. Success means supporting educators, helping students, and building reliable IT infrastructure that stays out of the way.

Our Orange Card Holder technicians understand this. We respond quickly. We explain issues in plain language. We do not add to teacher workload with unnecessary complexity.
IT support for schools means supporting people first, technology second.

ASD Annual Cyber Threat Report 2025-26
Schools are attractive targets because identity is the front door.
ASD's 2025-26 report shows attackers logging in rather than breaking in, and school environments combine high user counts, shared devices and student data under one roof. Compromised staff accounts and convincing phishing emails are the practical risks, and the report is clear that AI has made those emails faster and more convincing than ever.
Compliance you actually have
The frameworks that apply to education.
Student data, BYOx and term-time uptime. We translate the obligations into a practical control set, implement the technical controls and keep the evidence audit ready.
- Privacy Act and APPs
Student and family data is sensitive personal information.
- Child Safe Standards
Digital evidence and access controls expected at audit.
- QEDSOA-99983 alignment
Approved supplier arrangement for Queensland education customers.
- Notifiable Data Breaches scheme
Schools are not exempt from OAIC obligations.
- Term-time outages disrupt assessment and reporting deadlines, not just lessons.
- BYOx and 1:1 device programs widen the attack surface significantly.
- LMS, SIS and identity providers rarely talk cleanly without integration work.
- Holiday windows are the only realistic time for major change.

Australian regulatory context
What education leaders ask us about Australian cyber and data protection law.
Every answer is grounded in the live Australian primary source, with a link to our detailed look and to the responsible regulator. Reviewed against OAIC, APRA, ASD, DISR and Home Affairs sources.
Will the Children's Online Privacy Code affect schools and EdTech?
Almost certainly. OAIC released the exposure draft on 31 March 2026. Phase 3 consultation with children, parents and providers closes 5 June 2026, and the final Code must be registered by 10 December 2026. The Code introduces age assurance, default high privacy settings, and stricter handling rules for personal information of users under 18. EdTech providers and any school running platforms accessed by students should be reviewing data minimisation, parental consent flows, and default privacy posture now.
How does the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme apply to us today?
If you are covered by the Privacy Act, you must assess a suspected eligible data breach within 30 days, and notify the OAIC and affected individuals as soon as practicable once an eligible breach is identified. OAIC received 1,113 notifications across 2024, the highest annual total since the scheme commenced in 2018, and 667 in the first half of 2026 alone. The Tranche 2 exposure draft of August 2026 keeps the small business exemption, so most businesses under $3 million turnover stay outside the scheme unless another rule brings them in.
What does the new statutory tort for serious invasions of privacy mean for us?
Since 10 June 2025, individuals in Australia can sue any person or organisation that seriously and intentionally or recklessly invades their privacy, whether through intrusion on seclusion or misuse of information. The cause of action is not limited to entities covered by the Australian Privacy Principles. Damages for non-economic loss and punitive damages are capped at the greater of around $478,550 or the maximum amount for defamation non-economic loss. Surveillance, employee records handling, vendor due diligence, and incident response should all be reviewed.
How should we approach AI governance in Australia?
The Guidance for AI Adoption, published by the National AI Centre in late 2025, replaced the Voluntary AI Safety Standard of September 2024. It condenses the ten voluntary guardrails into six essential practices: decide who is accountable, understand impacts and plan accordingly, measure and manage risks, share essential information, test and monitor, and maintain human control. Existing obligations under the Privacy Act and Australian Consumer Law still apply to AI use. A shadow AI policy is now table stakes.
Is the Essential Eight still the benchmark, or are we waiting for the new ASD framework?
Both, for now. ASD published its successor, the Essentials series, on 15 October 2026. The Essential Eight stays current through the transition, ASD has not set a retirement date yet, and existing ML1 to ML3 work counts as evidence towards the Essentials, though ratings do not convert automatically. Keep going with the Essential Eight work you have planned and map it to the Essentials as you go.
What are the mandatory ransomware payment reporting obligations?
Part 3 of the Cyber Security Act 2024 (Cth) commenced on 30 May 2025. Businesses with annual turnover over $3 million, and all critical infrastructure entities, must report any ransomware or cyber extortion payment to the Australian Signals Directorate within 72 hours of making the payment or becoming aware that a payment has been made on their behalf. Reports are lodged through the ASD ReportCyber portal and sit alongside, not in place of, OAIC notification under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.
Real example
Building wireless infrastructure for outdoor learning.
A Queensland school wanted to extend their classroom beyond four walls, bringing technology-enabled learning outdoors. But reliable WiFi in outdoor spaces is harder than it sounds. You need the right equipment, strategic placement, and deep knowledge of Department compliance requirements.

Yes. We integrate and support Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace, and other LMS platforms commonly used in Australian schools and universities. We also handle the underlying network and server infrastructure that LMS systems depend on.
How do you handle device management for 1:1 programs?
We deploy and manage device fleets using Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions like Intune and Jamf. This includes configuration, security policy enforcement, app distribution, and hardware lifecycle management.
