ESG commitment

Technology with purpose.

Our commitment to environmental, social and governance principles is not a checkbox. It is built into how we work, who we partner with and the advice we give clients every day.

"We believe responsible IT is good IT. When we build systems that are secure, efficient and inclusive, everyone wins." Philip Verner, Founder and Director.

Our framework

The three pillars.

Environmental, social and governance: the principles that guide every decision we make.

Environmental: smarter technology, less waste

Technology has a real environmental cost. Our job is to help reduce unnecessary hardware, energy use, travel and waste through better design and better operating choices.

  • Cloud-first solutions reduce reliance on unnecessary on-site infrastructure and ageing hardware
  • Remote support cuts avoidable travel while still delivering fast, effective service
  • Paperless delivery across proposals, reports, documentation and client communication
  • Hardware lifecycle planning helps clients get more from equipment and replace less
  • Responsible disposal and recycling built into refresh and replacement programs
  • Supported by our Cisco Environmental Sustainability Specialization

Where you stand

0of 8 habits in place

8 gaps to close.

  • Old on-site servers retired or planned for retirementAgeing servers burn power around the clock and often run half empty.
  • A hardware lifecycle planPlanned replacement gets more years from each device and avoids rushed buys.
  • Retired devices wiped and recycled properlyLandfilled laptops leak both toxins and data.
  • Most support is done remotelyEvery avoided trip is time and emissions saved.
  • Paperless by defaultLess printing, less storage, faster sign-off.
  • Licences right-sized each yearPaying for idle licences is waste, even if it does not look like it.
  • Devices sleep when not in useSmall settings add up across a whole office.
  • Suppliers checked for sustainability and ethicsYour supply chain is part of your footprint.

Most of these save money as well as waste.

In practice

How we live our values.

Principles mean nothing without action. This is where our ESG commitments show up in real life.

  • E-waste responsibility

Hardware replacements go through accredited e-waste partners to keep electronics out of landfill.

  • Carbon-conscious cloud

We prioritise cloud providers with published renewable energy commitments, including Microsoft Azure and its data centre sustainability goals.

  • Education and community

Real Bytes and its founding firms have supported Queensland schools for over a decade with affordable, purpose-built IT for students and teachers.

  • Remote-first operations

Our remote support model cuts unnecessary site visits, lowering emissions while keeping service fast.

  • Ethical data practices

We treat every client's data with the care we give our own. Compliant, encrypted and never monetised.

  • Supply chain integrity

We partner with vendors who meet our standards for ethical sourcing, labour practices and environmental management.

Making your IT lower waste

Less waste, without less IT.

  1. Step 1See what you have

An inventory of devices, servers and licences, and how old each one is.

  2. Step 2Plan replacements

A lifecycle plan so devices are replaced on schedule, not in a panic.

  3. Step 3Right-size and move

Retire idle servers and licences, and move what fits to efficient cloud platforms.

  4. Step 4Dispose properly

Wipe, refurbish where worthwhile, and recycle the rest through accredited partners.
