Non-profit IT support, built around the way Australian NFPs actually operate
Most Australian NFPs run lean. One operations manager, a small finance team, a volunteer coordinator, and a board that needs to see clean compliance and donor data protection without paying for an enterprise IT department.
We provide non-profit IT support as a long-term relationship, not a break-fix call. Helpdesk, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace administration, ACSC Essential Eight aligned security, ACNC documentation, volunteer onboarding and offboarding, and a board-friendly view of risk and spend. Pricing reflects the sector.
Non-profit sectors we support
We also support volunteer-run boards, peak bodies, and federated charity groups with multi-site or multi-entity needs.
What non-profit IT support actually covers
Non-profit IT support is managed IT and cybersecurity delivered specifically for charities, NFPs and community organisations. It covers the same technical ground as commercial managed IT but is structured around the realities of NFP operations: tight budgets, volunteer and part-time staff, donor data obligations, and grant or board accountability. Real Bytes delivers non-profit IT support across Australia with pricing and service models built for organisations where every dollar is accounted for.
Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace management
Tenant setup, migration, licensing optimisation, security hardening and ongoing administration. Many NFPs overpay for licences they do not need or run unsecured tenants with no conditional access.
Donor and beneficiary data protection
Access controls, encryption, backup and audit trails for sensitive databases. We help you meet Privacy Act obligations and donor due diligence requirements without overcomplicating your workflow.
Volunteer and staff onboarding and offboarding
Fast, documented account provisioning and deprovisioning. Volunteers and part-time staff come and go frequently. We make sure access is granted and revoked cleanly every time.
Cybersecurity built for NFP budgets
Essential Eight aligned controls including MFA, EDR, patch management and immutable backup. We prioritise the controls that matter most and phase the rest based on what your budget allows.
ACNC and grant compliance readiness
Governance evidence for board reviews, grant cybersecurity assessments and donor due diligence. We document what is in place so you can answer questionnaires honestly and quickly.
Affordable, transparent pricing
Per-user monthly pricing with no lock-in contracts. NFPs typically save 30 to 40 percent compared to commercial MSP pricing. You see exactly what you are paying for and why.

Protecting donor and beneficiary data without overcomplicating your day
Australian charities and NFPs hold some of the most sensitive data in the country. Donor records with credit card history. Beneficiary files that may include health, housing or legal information. Volunteer rosters with personal contact details. Under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, organisations that hold personal information are expected to take reasonable steps to protect it, and the ACNC expects charities to manage risk responsibly as part of governance duties.
The challenge for most NFPs is not knowing what to do. It is doing it on a budget, with part-time staff and volunteers, without turning every login into a hurdle. These are the specific technical controls we put in place.
Multi-factor authentication on every account
MFA across Microsoft 365, admin portals and any cloud tool holding personal information. Conditional access policies block risky sign-ins from unfamiliar locations or devices. This is the single highest-impact control for preventing account takeover.
Endpoint detection and response on every device
Managed EDR on staff and shared laptops catches ransomware, credential theft and fileless attacks that standard antivirus misses. Alerts are reviewed by our security team, not left in a queue.
Encryption for data at rest and in transit
BitLocker on Windows and FileVault on macOS for device encryption. TLS for data in transit. Sensitive donor and beneficiary databases restricted by role-based access so only the people who need it can see it.
Immutable, tested backup
Backups stored in Australian data centres that cannot be overwritten or deleted by a compromised account. We test restores regularly so recovery actually works when it is needed, not just on paper.
Patch management and application allowlisting
Operating systems, browsers and line-of-business applications kept current. Optional application allowlisting for shared PCs and kiosks so only approved software runs.
Audit logging and access reviews
Microsoft 365 audit logs retained, privileged accounts reviewed quarterly, and offboarding triggered the day a volunteer or staff member leaves so access does not linger.
We align these controls to the ACSC Essential Eight Maturity Model, phased based on what your budget and risk profile allow. You do not have to do everything at once. You do have to start with MFA, EDR and tested backup. Everything else builds on those three.
Budget-friendly cloud migration that actually saves you money
Most NFPs we work with are running on legacy infrastructure that costs more than it should. An old server in a cupboard that someone patches when they remember. Commercial Microsoft 365 licences because nobody realised nonprofit pricing existed. Files scattered across personal Google Drives, USB sticks and a shared network drive nobody trusts. Cloud migration done properly fixes all of that, and it does not have to be expensive.
The goal is not to move everything to the cloud for the sake of it. The goal is to retire what is costing you money, consolidate what is duplicated, and give staff and volunteers tools that work from anywhere.
Audit what you have and what you pay for
We map every licence, shared mailbox, distribution list and legacy system before touching anything. Most NFPs we see are paying for licences that are not assigned, or running duplicate tools that do the same job.
Check nonprofit and charity pricing eligibility
Microsoft offers donated and discounted Microsoft 365 plans to eligible NFPs through the Microsoft Cloud for Nonprofits program, typically accessed via a validated TechSoup account. We help you confirm eligibility, apply, and right-size plans so you are not on commercial pricing by accident.
Migrate email, files and shared drives cleanly
Email migration from on-premises Exchange, POP or another tenant. File migration from network shares, Google Drive or Dropbox into SharePoint and Teams. Folder structure rebuilt properly rather than dumped, so staff can actually find things.
Retire legacy systems that cost you money
Old on-site servers draw power, need patching, and fail at the worst time. We help you identify what can be decommissioned once cloud equivalents are live, cutting hardware, power and support costs.
Train staff and volunteers on the new tools
Cloud migration fails when nobody shows staff how to use SharePoint, Teams or shared calendars properly. Short, practical sessions, not a manual nobody reads.
Hand over with documentation, not a black box
You get a written environment summary: what is where, who has admin access, what the backup schedule is, and what to do if something goes wrong. No lock-in, no mystery.
Want a cloud cost review for your NFP?
We will audit your current Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace tenant, flag wasted spend, and check your nonprofit pricing eligibility. No obligation.
