The challenges
The challenges legal firms face.
Most IT providers do not understand the legal profession. We do.
Client Confidentiality at Risk
Law firms hold highly sensitive client data. A breach is not just an IT problem. It is a professional conduct issue with serious consequences for your practice and your clients.
Data Sovereignty Requirements
Client data must remain in Australia. Many generic IT providers use offshore data centres or support staff. We keep your files, email and backups in Australian data centres and document where every system stores data.
Compliance Obligations
Law firms face obligations under the Privacy Act, Legal Profession Uniform Law Australian Solicitors Conduct Rules, Cyber Security Act 2024, and client-mandated security requirements from corporate and government clients.
Remote and Mobile Workforce
Lawyers work from home, courts, client sites, and interstate. Securing access across all these contexts without friction is a specialist challenge.

Key legal compliance requirements
Your practice faces specific obligations under recent legislation.
- Cyber Security Act 2024
Firms with turnover over $3 million must report a ransomware or extortion payment to ASD within 72 hours. Firms covered by the Privacy Act must assess a suspected data breach within 30 days and notify the OAIC if it is eligible. We make sure your systems meet the baseline controls and the evidence exists.
- Incident notification within required timeframe
- Documented incident response procedures
- Security control implementation and audit
- Privacy Act reforms
Updated Privacy Act requirements strengthen obligations around personal data handling, client consent, and breach notification. Your IT systems must support Privacy by Design principles.
- Privacy impact assessments
- Secure data handling procedures
- Client data retention compliance
- Legal profession conduct rules
Rule 9 of the Australian Solicitors' Conduct Rules requires solicitors to keep client information confidential. Your IT infrastructure is the foundation for meeting these professional conduct obligations.
- Information barriers and conflicts checking
- Client data segregation
- Audit trails for compliance proof

Practice management
Legal Profession Uniform Law and practice management.
- Compliance with Legal Profession Uniform Law
Law firms must comply with the Legal Profession Uniform Law across participating states. This includes practice management rules, client trust accounting, conflicts checking, and data security standards. Your IT infrastructure must support these compliance obligations automatically.
- Client trust account reconciliation and audit trails
- Conflicts checking and matter management security
- Document retention and destruction protocols
- LEAP Legal Software integration
We support firms using LEAP Legal Software, a cloud-based practice management system widely used by Australian firms. Your LEAP instance sits on secure infrastructure with proper access controls, backups, and disaster recovery built in.
- LEAP integration with Australian data centres
- Trust account and billing system data protection
- Automated backups for practice data recovery
- Australian data sovereignty
Your client files, email and backups are stored in Australian data centres and your support engineers are in Australia. We document where every system stores data, so you can answer a client's security questionnaire accurately. This is not a feature. It is a baseline requirement for any firm that takes its obligations seriously.
ASD Annual Cyber Threat Report 2025-26
Law firms hold exactly what invoice fraud is built to steal.
ASD's 2025-26 report ranks Professional, Scientific and Technical Services, the division law practices sit in, as the second most frequently reporting non-government sector at 6% of incidents, and one of the three sectors most affected by ransomware. Trust account details, matter files and client correspondence all travel by email every day, and the report found 21% of incidents involved compromised accounts. Prevention costs less than one compromised matter.
How it works
How we take over a law firm's IT.
- Step 1Review
Identity, email, devices, backup and your practice management system, mapped against your confidentiality and Privacy Act obligations.
- Step 2Secure
MFA, DMARC, mailbox rule alerts and EDR first, because invoice fraud and mailbox takeover are the risks that cost firms money.
- Step 3Run it
Helpdesk, patching, backup and monitoring every day, with documentation you can hand to a client or insurer.
- Step 4Prove it
SMB1001 or client security questionnaires answered with evidence, not promises.

Questions
Questions from legal clients.
Do you work with sole practitioners as well as large firms?
Yes. We work with sole practitioners, boutique firms, and national practices. Our service model scales to fit your size and budget.
Can you guarantee data stays in Australia?
Your client files, email and backups are stored in Australian data centres, and your support engineers are based in Australia. The one exception is 24/7 security monitoring: our managed detection service uses a follow-the-sun analyst team that reviews security alerts around the clock. Analysts see alert details, not your matter files. We document exactly where each system stores data so you can answer client questionnaires accurately.
What happens if we have a security incident?
You call us. We have a documented incident response process and our engineers are available 24/7 for critical incidents. We handle containment, recovery, and reporting.
Can you help us meet client security requirements?
Yes. We help law firms achieve SMB1001 certification, Essential Eight compliance, and respond to client security questionnaires with documented evidence.
Do you work outside Queensland?
Yes. We work with law firms across Queensland and nationally. Most support happens remotely, and we arrange on-site visits when a job needs hands on equipment.
