What you would work on

Real Bytes runs four practices. Most engineers touch more than one, which is part of why the work stays interesting. You will not spend a year on a single client seat.

Managed IT services

Help desk, device management, patching, backup and proactive maintenance for small and medium Australian businesses. The day-to-day engineering that keeps clients running.

Cybersecurity

Endpoint detection and response, 24/7 managed detection and response, Essential Eight alignment, SMB1001 evidence and incident response. Security built into every engagement, not sold as an extra.

Microsoft 365 and cloud

Tenant management, Intune enrolment, SharePoint and Teams governance, Azure infrastructure and licensing. The productivity and cloud platform most of our clients run on.

Operational technology and projects

Ubiquiti UniFi networking, CCTV, access control, site builds and OT security for industrial and remote sites. The project work that takes you out of the ticket queue and onto a site.

Why join Real Bytes

We invest in our people because great talent comes from a great environment. The practical version of that, not the poster version.

Competitive salary

Market-rate pay reviewed regularly, tied to outcome and growth, not ticket volume.

Real team culture

A collaborative, supportive team that backs each other on hard problems.

Training and growth

Annual training budget for certifications, courses and clear career progression paths.

Flexible work

Remote-first across Australia with flexible hours around your life.

Remote-first

Work from anywhere in Australia. Onsite work is arranged regionally, not expected daily.

Professional development

Annual training budget for certifications and courses, plus paid time to study.

Mentorship

Access to experienced engineers and a clear path forward, not a dead-end seat.

Work-life balance

Flexible hours and reasonable workloads. We staff to serve clients well, not to burn people out.

Team connection

Regular team meetups and an annual get-together to put faces to the remote names.

Varied work

Exposure across managed IT, cyber security, cloud, AI and OT. Breadth you won't get in a single client seat.

What we value

We look for people who care about outcomes, ask good questions, and want to make a real difference for Australian businesses.

A problem-solving mindset and attention to detail

From this year's AISA CyberCon Review

What this year's AISA CyberCon Review means for hiring

The AISA CyberCon Review 2026-2027 keeps landing on one practitioner message: most breaches trace back to neglected fundamentals, not missing heroics. That shapes what we interview for. Can you find what is on a network, lock down admin access, patch on a schedule and prove a backup by restoring it? Engineers who can do the basics brilliantly are worth more to an Australian business than any number of tool certifications.

The demand side is real as well. Jobs and Skills Australia projects employment in the database, systems administration and ICT security occupation group to grow 14.2 per cent from May 2024 to 2029, more than double the national rate, and the Australian Cyber Workforce Playbook puts skilled people at the centre of sovereign cyber capability. Our training budget and mentorship exist because fundamentals-first engineers are made, not found.

Are Real Bytes IT jobs remote across Australia?
