One app for the whole site, with no per-device licence.

UniFi software is the management layer that runs every UniFi device. The Network, Protect, Access, Connect and Talk applications run on a UniFi console such as a Dream Machine or Cloud Key, and you manage the site from one web app and one mobile app. The core applications and cloud management carry no per-device licence; CyberSecure is the optional paid security upgrade, and the Policy Engine handles firewall, routing and traffic rules. Real Bytes configures it, turns on the security you need, and supports it.

Why it matters

A box of separate apps is not a managed network.

When the firewall, the cameras, the doors and the Wi-Fi each have their own software and their own login, no one has the whole picture and a security gap can sit unnoticed for months.

UniFi runs every layer in one application on one console, with one login and one set of rules. The core software carries no per-device licence, and the paid CyberSecure upgrade adds Proofpoint threat feeds and Cloudflare content filtering where you need them. We configure the policies, turn on the security you need, and document it.

UniFi software questions

What is UniFi software?

UniFi software is the management layer that runs every UniFi device. The Network, Protect, Access, Connect and Talk applications run on a UniFi console such as a Dream Machine or Cloud Key, and the whole site is managed from one web app and one mobile app. The core applications and cloud management carry no per-device licence; optional paid extras such as CyberSecure, Identity Enterprise and UI Care are separate.

What is UniFi CyberSecure?

CyberSecure is UniFi's paid security upgrade for the gateway. It strengthens intrusion detection and prevention with a Proofpoint threat library of up to 110,000 signatures across 53 categories, updated weekly, and adds Cloudflare content filtering with over 100 categories so you can block or allow sites by user group or VLAN. It is activated per site in Site Manager and covers a high-availability shadow gateway too. Specifications per UniFi CyberSecure documentation, help.ui.com.

What is the UniFi Policy Engine?

The Policy Engine is the one screen for firewall, routing and traffic rules in UniFi. Zone-based firewall, application filtering, policy-based routing, QoS and content filtering are all set there, and from Network 9.4 the Object Manager lets you choose an outcome such as client isolation and UniFi writes the firewall and ACL rules for you.

What you get

Software that runs the whole site, not just the network.

One app, one login

Network, Wi-Fi, cameras, doors, phones and signage sit in one dashboard with one login for your team and ours, managed from a browser or the UniFi mobile app.

No per-device licence

The core Network, Protect, Access, Connect and Talk applications and cloud management carry no subscription. You buy the console once; optional paid extras are separate and we tell you which, if any, you need.

CyberSecure threat feeds

The paid CyberSecure upgrade adds Proofpoint IDS/IPS signatures and Cloudflare content filtering to the gateway, with weekly updates and over 100 filtering categories.

Policy Engine rules

Firewall zones, application filtering, routing, QoS and content filtering are configured on one screen, and the Object Manager writes the underlying rules from the outcome you choose.

How it works

How your UniFi installer works, priced before anything is installed.

  1. 01

    Survey

We walk the site, or work from floor plans, and plan where access points, cameras and readers should go.

  2. 02

    Quote

A fixed-price proposal with every device and cable run listed, before you commit.

  3. 03

    Install

Cabled, configured and tested, then handed over with a short walk-through of the app.

  4. 04

    Look after it

Alerts come to our engineers, firmware is updated on a schedule and settings are backed up. Most faults are fixed remotely, and Brisbane-based engineers attend when needed.

Common questions

The questions we get asked the most.

Do I need a licence for UniFi software?
No per-device licence is needed for the core software. The Network, Protect, Access, Connect and Talk applications and cloud management are included with the console. Optional paid extras such as CyberSecure, Identity Enterprise and UI Care are separate, and we tell you which, if any, suit your site before you buy.
Is UniFi CyberSecure worth it?
CyberSecure suits sites that want stronger gateway security than the built-in rules. It adds a Proofpoint threat library of up to 110,000 signatures and Cloudflare content filtering with over 100 categories, updated weekly. For a small office the free IDS/IPS may be enough; for sites with compliance or web-filtering needs we recommend it and set it up.
What console runs UniFi software?
The applications run on a UniFi console such as a Dream Machine, Cloud Key or Enterprise Fortress Gateway. Most sites already have one; if not, we size the right console for your device count and whether you need cameras or storage.
Can UniFi integrate with Microsoft Entra ID or Google Workspace?
Yes. UniFi supports identity provider integration with Microsoft Entra ID and Google Workspace for single sign-on and MFA, so staff sign in once and access is managed centrally. We connect it to your existing identity provider as part of the setup.
Does UniFi keep working without the internet?
Yes. The console runs your network, cameras and doors locally, so an internet outage does not stop them. Cloud management and remote access pause until the link returns, and the site keeps operating.
Can you manage UniFi software for us?
Yes. Real Bytes monitors, updates and backs up your UniFi site as part of a managed IT plan, applies firewall and CyberSecure policy changes, and documents everything so it is not a black box.
