AI readiness assessment for Brisbane organisations
Before you switch on Copilot or approve an AI tool, it is worth knowing what it will be able to reach. An AI readiness assessment tells you whether your data and identity foundations can carry it safely.
Managed Intelligence is one of our four practices: practical AI and automation with the governance to use it safely. Our engineers are senior and Brisbane-based, with no offshore call centres.
Why this comes up now
AI has stopped being a future consideration. Licences are bundled into Microsoft 365, staff have found the free tools on their own, and boards have started asking what the organisation's position actually is.
The awkward part is that AI does not create most of the risk it exposes. It surfaces problems that were already there: files shared far more widely than anyone intended, permissions nobody has reviewed in years, accounts without proper access controls. Enabling an assistant makes all of that reachable.
So the honest sequence is foundations first, rollout second. That is what the assessment is for, and the groundwork it identifies is worth doing whether or not you proceed with AI.
What we assess
Four things that decide whether you are ready
Readiness is mostly about your foundations, not the AI tool you pick. These are the four areas that determine whether a rollout goes quietly or creates problems you then have to unpick.
Your data estate
AI assistants surface whatever a user already has access to. Oversharing in SharePoint and OneDrive that nobody noticed becomes visible the moment Copilot is switched on. We look at permissions and sprawl before anything is enabled.
Identity and access
MFA, conditional access and admin separation decide who can reach which tools and data. Weak identity controls undermine every AI guardrail placed above them, so this is assessed as part of readiness rather than separately.
What staff are already using
Most organisations already have AI in use through personal accounts, whether or not it is approved. We establish what is actually happening so the policy you write reflects reality instead of an assumption.
Where it would genuinely help
Not every process benefits from AI. We identify the work where it earns its licence cost, and the work where it adds risk for little return, so spend follows evidence rather than enthusiasm.
How we run it
One team across the review, the remediation and the rollout, so the findings actually get acted on rather than landing in a report nobody owns.
- Review of how your data is currently shared and who can reach what
- Identity and access check, since AI guardrails sit on top of it
- Discovery of the AI tools already in use across the organisation
- A prioritised list of what to fix before any rollout begins
